It was another tough loss for the Bengals on Sunday falling 16 – 10 to Pittsburgh and moving to 0 – 11 on the season. Like many other games this year the Bengals were right in this one till the end and couldn’t quite get over the hump. A winning ticket on the Bengals in this game depended on where you place your bet.
Most books had Cincinnati +6.5 but leading up to game time many sportsbooks moved to Cin +6 where the number eventually fell. This being another example of why its always good to have hook on your side. The “hook” Is the ½ point that is tacked onto many lines in order to promote even more action. Buying that half point is always a good strategy if it is available to you. It will cost a little more up front but can pay off big in the long run turning a potential push into a win.
The total on this game, which couldn’t get low enough, saw a lot of action on the Under leading up to game time. The line plummeted from 39 to 37 and the game was never in question of going over the number. The suspensions and injuries on the Pittsburgh side and the general ineptitude of the Bengals offense led to nice play on the Under.
It’s the Return of the Red Rifle! How Does the Return of Andy Dalton Alter the Bengals Odds in Week 13
Its Andy Dalton time again in Cincinnati as the Ryan Finley experiment has proven unsuccessful. Head coach Zac Taylor announced on Monday that “the Red Rifle” will be back a the helm of the Bengals offense and will be looking to win a game or two as the race for number one overall pick in next years draft, has been all but wrapped up.
Dalton is of course a big improvement from what Finely has shown this year and I expect Dalton to continue what he was doing before the benching which wasn’t all that bad except for the lack of winning. If the Bengals run game can get going at all they should be able to get that win at some point here with Dalton back under center. The odds for the Bengals going 0 – 16 are now +250 for the YES and -335 for the NO. With Dalton back I would expect a win to come at some point, hey, maybe even two.
This week the red-hot New York Jets come to town as 3.5 point favorites, riding a three game winning streak and looking really good along the way, scoring 34 points in each of those games. With the Bengals not scoring above 13 in their last 4 games they will have to get something going offensively.
Joe Mixon has shown some flashes, but consistency is going to be the key for the Bengals going forward. The Over / Under on the game is now 41 up from 39.5 to open. I expect to see a rejuvenated Bengal offense this week and given roll that the Jets are on I can see this game possibly shooting out and sailing well over this total.
