Columbus Crew FC

Columbus Crew FC need a miracle, and then some, to have a shot at the 2019 Major League Soccer crown

With the 23rd season of Major League soccer set to conclude in a little over four weeks, intrigue reigns over who will be crowned champion. Unfortunately, Columbus Crew FC are suffering through a disastrous campaign. Having already racked up an astonishing 15 losses on the season, it appears “there’s always next year” will be the slogan for the Crew’s 2019 season.

Beginning the season with four wins, one tie, and just one loss through their first five games, morale was high in Ohio. Alas, the feeling was short lived. Once the calendar turned to April, the Crew would go on to lose eight of their next ten games. Leading them to the very depths of the Eastern Conference. While plummeting to the bottom of the standings, Columbus lost one of their best players in goalkeeper Zack Steffen. The ascending United States’ Men’s National Team star departed for Manchester City after the summer’s Gold Cup tournament. The Crew have been reeling ever since.

In short, betting on the Columbus Crew FC to make any noise in 2019 is simply a fool’s errand. Your money is better spent elsewhere. When you enter an online sportsbook, and fail to find the team’s odds to win the MLS Cup even listed, it’s time to look elsewhere. Never chase the long distance play. This season simply has not been kind to Columbus.

Columbus Crew Odds Are So Long You Cannot Find Them

Columbus Crew FC are simply struggling to score goals in 2019. Led by forward Gyasi Zardes’ 11 goals, offense has not been the teams forte. Crew FC have been, in a word, average. While scoring only 1.1 goals per game this campaign, Columbus is in the lower half of the league in almost every major metric. Ranking 20th in shots, and 24th in shots on target is not a recipe for success. Don’t get me wrong, Crew FC haven’t been terrible. The team has not lost by more than three goals all season. The squad from Ohio has also been far from good, as they’ve failed to win a game by more than two.

The odds of the Columbus Crew making any noise in the MLS Cup race this season are incredibly low. Victors of only eight games entering the last month of the Major League Soccer season, Crew FC will need a miracle to even make the playoffs. With only 31 points through 30 league games, Crew FC odds of making an historic comeback are extremely low this late in the season. The team would need to pass Toronto FC for the final MLS Eastern Conference play-off spot. Toronto’s Reds hold not only a seven-point advantage, but also have two games in hand. This season’s campaign is all but over for Columbus.

Perhaps in the near future, Crew fans will look back on 2019 as the year that wasn’t meant to me. While looking forward to a brighter future for their squad. Adding offensive talent and attackers has to be at the forefront of any movement for this team to compete in 2020. For all you know, odds on Crew FC will look far different at this point next year. Much has changed in the ever growing world soccer landscape, yet one remains. Scoring goals is the only way to win a match. If you’re team cannot do that, they can’t do much. At least Crew fans can bask in the glory the team spent the season in Columbus and not Austin.
